
NVFC Junior Firefighter Program of the Year Award

The nomination period for the 2010 Junior Firefighter Program of the Year Award is now closed.
The National Volunteer Fire Council’s (NVFC) Junior Firefighter Program of the Year Award, sponsored by Tyco International, honors a junior firefighter program or Explorer Post that has demonstrated significant community impact, innovation, and creativity. Nominees will be judged on the following criteria:
- Program has been in operation for at least one full year
- Program has demonstrated exemplary creativity and community impact
- Program is registered with the National Junior Firefighter Program (registration is free at www.nvfc.org/juniors)
The selection of the Junior Firefighter Program of the Year Award recipient will be determined through a nationwide application process. The winning program will be recognized at a special Awards Banquet in conjunction with the NVFC Spring Board Meeting and will receive:
- Travel and accommodations for one department representative to historic Alexandria, VA, just outside of Washington, DC, to attend Awards Banquet
- Complimentary NVFC Spring Board Meeting registration for the department representative
- Recognition as guest of honor at the Awards Banquet
- Complimentary one-year NVFC Department Membership
- Personalized award
- Special gift provided by Tyco International
- Place in NVFC history
Application packets must include:
- Completed application form
- 500-word essay describing the program’s contribution to the local community, including specific examples of how they have used innovation to build youth leadership for the benefit of the fire service and the local community
- Up to three additional supporting documents, which may include recommendation letters from community members, articles, or other pertinent information
Please note – if chosen, winning department must submit a digital photo to be used for NVFC newsletters, web sites, and other materials.
