Ask Your U.S. Senators to Vote for SAVES Act to Reduce Fuel Costs for Volunteer Fire Departments
In July, the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) endorsed the Supporting America’s Volunteer Emergency Services (SAVES) Act, a bill to provide federal assistance to volunteer fire departments struggling with the high cost of gasoline and diesel fuel. Senator Robert Casey is attempting to have the SAVES Act included as part of an economic stimulus package that Congressional Democrats are hoping to pass before Congress adjourns, likely for the last time this session, at the end of September. Contact your Senators to ask them to support inclusion of the SAVES Act in any economic stimulus package that Congress considers. Read full article.
NVFC Attends Volunteer Recognition Event at White House
On September 8, President Bush honored the nation’s volunteers at an event held on the South Lawn of the White House. The President hosted several hundred guests and representatives from volunteer organizations, including members of the National Volunteer Fire Council staff. Read full article.
Designate the NVFC in Your CFC Giving
The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) season is now open, providing federal employees the opportunity to designate nonprofit organizations in their 2009 donation plan. Consider supporting the NVFC by designating CFC identification #11395 when making your pledge. Read full article.
NEMSAC to Hold October Meeting
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the second meeting of the National Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council (NEMSAC) will be held October 2-3 in Washington, DC.Read full article.
Register Early for the Inaugural PPE Symposium
The Fire Industry Equipment Research Organization and NFPA Fire Service Section are sponsoring the inaugural Fire Service PPE Symposium on March 9-10, 2009, in Charlotte, NC. The National Volunteer Fire Council is a supporter of the Symposium. Enrollment is limited to 300 people, so register early to ensure your place and take advantage of an early registration discount.Read full article.
NFA Course Vacancies
The National Fire Academy still has course vacancies left in its first semester schedule. Vacancies exist in courses within the Arson Curriculum and Emergency Medical Services Curriculum.Read full article.
