NVFC and Other Fire Groups Call on Congressional Appropriators to Support AFG and SAFER

Secretary Napolitano Testifies Before House and Senate on President’s Budget Request

On February 23, the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) along with a coalition of other fire service organizations sent letters to the House and Senate Appropriations Committees and the House and Senate Subcommittees on Homeland Security Appropriations asking them to fund the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant program at $420 million each.

NVFC Participates in Hill Day to Promote Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act

On March 3, dozens of individuals representing various constituencies within the fire service, safety organizations, and the fire sprinkler industry converged on Washington, DC, to educate members of the U.S. House and Senate about the Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act (H.R. 1194, S. 2947), which would provide tax incentives for the installation of fire sprinklers in commercial properties, including apartment complexes and nursing homes. The Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act is one of the National Volunteer Fire Council’s (NVFC) top legislative priorities and NVFC staff led one of several groups that fanned out across Capitol Hill to ask members of Congress to co-sponsor to the bill.

NVFC Welcomes All State Members

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) has partnered with several of its member state fire and emergency service associations to introduce the All State Member option. Through this special promotion, individuals can join the NVFC through their state association and receive the many great benefits of an NVFC Personal Member for the low rate of just $10 a year. Benefits include a $10,000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) policy through Provident Agency.

Volunteer Advocacy News: South Jersey Firefighter Takes Stand Against Union

International Fire Relief Mission To Send Emergency Equipment to Chile

IFRM engages its donor network and collection expertise to assist Rosenbauer’s efforts to provide emergency equipment to Chilean fire, rescue, and EMS workers.

When its sponsoring partner Rosenbauer asked for help collecting donated gear to aid Chilean emergency responders dealing with that country’s 8.8-magnitude earthquake, the International Fire Relief Mission (IFRM) responded.

Dallas Hosts ICC Final Action Hearings, Educational Tours

Spring Hearings Will Debate Changes for Several 2012 Codes including Building, Fire, PMG; Features Learning Tours of LEED Gold Home, 1920s Power Station Converted to Residence

Building safety advocates will consider several hundred code changes during the International Code Council Final Action Hearings, May 14–23 in Dallas. The Group A Final Action Hearings will include all sections of the International Building, Fire, Plumbing, Mechanical, Fuel Gas, Wildland-Urban Interface, and Existing Building codes, and the building, mechanical, and plumbing sections of the International Residential Code.
