NVFC Foundation Funds Project
The Pennsylvania Fire & Emergency Services Institute, through a grant from the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) Foundation, has produced a firefighter health and safety program which is available on compact disc.
The "Firefighter Safety and Survival" disk, which is run on the Windows-based PowerPoint program, provides fire departments and emergency response units with a framework for creating their own health and safety program.
In 1998, nearly 100 firefighters were killed in the line of duty. "By adopting a health and safety program, fire departments across the country can help reduce the number of firefighter deaths and injuries," said Phil Stittleburg, NVFC Foundation President.
