Texas Wildfire Relief Program Update

Source: State Fireman’s and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas

The State Fireman’s and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas created the Texas Wildfire Relief Fund to generate awareness and garner support for Texas volunteer firefighters. This has been the worst wildfire season in Texas history, and the fund provides grants to help volunteer departments secure needed gear.

The Wildfire Relief Program has been very busy over the last few months raising money for the fund and approving applications for wildland gear. To date, the program has received over $522,246 worth of requests for wildland protective coats/pants and has distributed more than $419,210 worth of orders and gear to departments who have requested the gear. Volunteer and combination departments in Texas are eligible to apply for grants through this fund.

The program’s goal is to eventually fill as many requests for wildland coats/pants as possible and then focus efforts on other wildland accessories. Wildfire Relief Phase II will focus on accessories such as wildland helmets, goggles, gloves, and particle masks.
