Nominate an Outstanding Junior Firefighter or Junior Program for National Award

Awards sponsored by Tyco International

Has a junior firefighter in your department gone above and beyond this year? Perhaps the junior firefighter program in your department or community has really shone as an exemplary youth program. Consider nominating that youth or program for one of two prestigious national awards.

The National Volunteer Fire Council’s (NVFC) National Junior Firefighter Program, thanks to ongoing support from Tyco International, will recognize achievements in the area of junior firefighting through the third annual Junior Firefighter of the Year Award and Junior Firefighter Program of the Year Award. Submit your nomination at www.nvfc.org/juniors.

Both awards will be presented during the NVFC’s spring board meeting in late April in Alexandria, VA. Recipients will receive a trip to Alexandria to attend the Award ceremony, personalized award, and complimentary one-year membership in the NVFC, among other items. This year, Tyco will also provide a trip for the Junior Firefighter of the Year Award winner and one parent/guardian to attend their closest Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge.

The Junior Firefighter of the Year Award honors a junior firefighter or Explorer who has shown extraordinary dedication, commitment, and achievements as a youth member of the fire service. Nominees must have been a junior firefighter or Explorer for at least one year and have gone above and beyond in their participation and accomplishments as a junior firefighter. Two letters of recommendation are also required.

The Junior Firefighter Program of the Year Award recognizes a department that has an outstanding junior firefighter program. The program must have been in operation for at least one year, and departments must demonstrate creativity and community impact for the program.

Find the full criteria and application for these awards at www.nvfc.org/juniors. The deadline for nominations is February 15. Contact the NVFC at juniors@nvfc.org or 1-888-ASK-NVFC (275-6832) with any questions.
