New Free Public Information Officer Program Available

The Firefighters Support Foundation’s (FSF) newest free training program, Public Information Officer: Roles and Responsibilities, is now available. The program consists of a 35-minute video program and an accompanying 45-slide PowerPoint presentation about this not well-understood but vital function.
The program covers:
- Responsibilities of the PIO.
- The PIO and incident command
- Information release guidelines
- Media relations
- Message mapping – a powerful tool
- How to choose a PIO
- How to train as a PIO
Firefighters and EMTs can view the video material with the PowerPoint file acting as their hard copy notes, or they can use either resource independently. The PowerPoint and video portions of the program can be used by any agency or member either as-is, or as a basis from which to construct training modules or presentations of their own.
