National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend to be Held October 15-16
Published Date: 09.27.2011
Seventy-two firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2010 will be honored during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend in Emmitsburg, MD, on October 15-16. Seventeen firefighters who died in previous years will also be honored.
A bronze plaque containing the names of each of these firefighters will be added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial on the campus of the National Fire Academy. The ceremony brings together members of the fire service and the family and friends of the fallen to honor their dedication and remember their sacrifice.
The National Volunteer Fire Council remembers all first responders who have fallen in the line of duty, and honors their memories. These first responders made the ultimate sacrifice for their communities and we shall be forever indebted to them for their service. We also give our thanks to all of the volunteers who risk their lives to keep us safe every day.
