Georgia-Pacific Now Accepting Applications for Bucket Brigadeā„¢ Grants

Grants fund needed gear and equipment for departments in Georgia-Pacific communities

The application period for the 2011 Georgia-Pacific Bucket Brigade™ Grants is now open. Fire departments in communities that have Georgia-Pacific facilities or where company employees live can apply for a grant to fund needed gear and equipment. Grants have been used to fund a variety of necessities, including turn-out gear, extrication equipment, vehicle repairs, pumps, hoses and nozzles, and certification programs.

The Georgia-Pacific Bucket Brigade is a national program that recognizes firefighters in Georgia-Pacific communities for their contributions in making their communities, homes, and workplaces safer. In addition to the grants, the program also provides free fire safety educational materials to eligible fire departments upon request.

Since 2006, the Georgia-Pacific Bucket Brigade program has contributed more than $650,000 to rural and small-town fire departments across the U.S. In 2010, Georgia-Pacific awarded a total of $175,000 in grants to 25 departments. In addition, Georgia-Pacific provided all applicants with a complimentary year-long department membership in the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC).

“We are proud to partner with Georgia-Pacific to get the word out about this terrific grant opportunity,” said NVFC Chairman Philip C. Stittleburg. “This is a great example of a company giving back to the first responders who protect their communities. With so many departments struggling for funding right now, I encourage all departments that are located in a Georgia-Pacific community to take advantage of this valuable grant program to help secure the equipment and gear they need.”
