It’s National Women’s Health Week! Focus on Your Heart Health so You Can Serve Strong

To all of our female firefighters and emergency responders: Did you know that heart attack is a leading cause of on-duty firefighter fatalities among women? All of these deaths over the last decade were caused by stress/overexertion, and 75 percent of deaths occurred in women who were under 50 years old, according to statistics from the U.S. Fire Administration.

It’s National Women’s Health Week. This is a great opportunity to focus on your heart health by utilizing resources from the National Volunteer Fire Council’s Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program to ensure you are fit and ready to respond. Resources include functional fitness videos, resource guides, training, and more. Take action to protect yourself so you can be there for all those who count on you – your family, your department, and your community.

You can also check out additional health and wellness resources, covering topics such as cancer prevention and behavioral health, from the NVFC’s Serve Strong campaign.

It takes someone with HEART to do your job. Keep it strong!
