Free Course: Preventing and Coping with Suicide in the Fire and Emergency Services

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and the NVFC is making its course Preventing and Coping with Suicide in the Fire and Emergency Services FREE for the next two weeks.

Fire and emergency services members regularly respond to traumatic events that can have lasting effects on their mental wellbeing. Unfortunately some first responders do not receive the help that they need and decide to take their own life. The effects of suicide in the fire service are devastating to the department, the family, and the fire service as a whole.

This three module course examines the signs and symptoms preceding suicide, highlights available resources for departments and individuals, and discusses the healing process when coping with a firefighter suicide. This course is eligible for .2 continuing education credit. Take course in the NVFC Virtual Classroom.
