Firefighter Cancer: A Very Real Threat

More and more attention is being given to the issue of firefighter cancer, which many experts agree is one of the biggest health threats facing firefighters.
A story in the Washington Post looks at the nationwide push to establish cancer presumption laws to provide firefighters with workers’ compensation for cancer contracted from on the job exposures. A blog post on FireEngineering.com recently recounted the author’s cancer diagnosis and emphasized the importance of annual screenings for firefighters. An article shared on FireRescue1.com looks at how keeping firefighters’ gear clean is key in cancer prevention programs.
With firefighters contracting cancer at a higher rate than the public, it is critical firefighters take steps to protect themselves through prevention and annual screenings. Find resources here.
