Columbia Southern University Scholarships

The application for the 2014 Columbia Southern University Scholarships is now closed. Stay tuned for the announcement of the recipients in mid-October.
Columbia Southern University (CSU), one of the nation's first completely online universities, is offering two, two-year scholarships to members of the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC).
Each scholarship will be applied to two consecutive years towards the completion of one of CSU’s online associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or certificate programs.  

Scholarship Details

CSU will award two scholarships to NVFC members based on a competetive application process. Each scholarship will cover 100% of the recipients' tuition and the library fee for up to two years or until completion of the selected online degree program, whichever comes first.

Application and Deadline

The 2014 CSU Scholarship application period was open from from June 30-September 15.  

Selection Process

After the application period has ended, the applications will be reviewed by the NVFC Membership and Awards Committee. The two winning applicants will be notified by October 15, 2014.

Eligibility and Requirements  

All scholarship applicants must:
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Be a current member of the NVFC
  • Complete the CSU/NVFC Scholarship Application
  • Provide up to two letters of recommendation
  • Submit a 500-word essay on this subject: "Explain how the opportunity to continue your education through this scholarship will advance your participation in the fire and emergency services or enhance your ability to contribute back to the emergency services community."

Note: Scholarship recipients need to enroll in CSU within 90 days from the date of the award notification. Once enrolled, the recipient must maintain continuous enrollment in their degree program. Scholarship recipients are required to maintain a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA or 3.5 graduate GPA.
