Part-time Administrative Assistant
The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is the premier nonprofit association serving the volunteer fire, emergency, and rescue services. Today, the NVFC serves as the voice of over one million volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel on Capitol Hill and provides valuable training, community support, and other resources.
The NVFC seeks a part-time Administrative Assistant for our national office. Responsibilities include general clerical duties, reception, maintaining paper and electronic files, creating and editing documents, answering general inquiries and other duties as assigned. Preferable schedule of Monday-Friday, 10a.m. to 2p.m., but other arrangements will be considered. Bachelor's degree; two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Association and/or fire service experience preferred. Salary is commensurate with experience.

NFPA Senior Specialist, Emergency Services/Emergency Management
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is seeking a Senior Specialist, Emergency Services/Emergency Management. This position provides staff liaison support to technical committees and provides technical support and advisory services on subjects related to the emergency services and emergency management, including fire protection, hazardous materials, emergency medical services, emergency preparedness, and business continuity. The NVFC seeks a motivated intern to work with our Administrative Team. Gain hands-on experience in office administration and how a nonprofit organization operates while cultivating skills in a wide variety of areas, including program development and how to develop partnerships. Intern responsibilities include assisting with meeting planning and preparation, database support, assistance with marketing and membership initiatives, and research on topics such as junior firefighter programs, EMS, and wildland fire issues. The NVFC has a positive working environment that fosters growth and encourages questions and ideas. The NVFC has a flexible intern program which works around students’ schedules.
The NVFC seeks a motivated Government Relations Intern to assist with the organization’s advocacy and outreach efforts. The primary responsibilities of the Government Relations Intern are to attend and report on Congressional hearings, draft letters and press releases, perform internet research including news searches to identify articles of interest to the NVFC, and carry out special projects under the direction of the Director of Government Relations or Executive Director. Other responsibilities may include following up on requests from NVFC Board Members and helping with tasks related to NVFC meetings.
The NVFC seeks a motivated intern to work with our PR/Communication team. Interns will assist with a variety of tasks, including writing press releases, developing web site content, scanning industry media, maintaining media binder and photo archives, writing articles for the NVFC’s e-newsletters and printed magazine, research, helping with various outreach efforts, and assisting with special projects as needed. Intern will gain valuable, hands-on work experience in the communications field. Motivated candidate must be a college student with sophomore status or above with a minimum 3.0 GPA and pursuing a major in the communications field. Excellent written and oral communications skills required. Previous job or internship experience preferred but not mandatory.
The NVFC is seeking a motivated intern to work with our Health and Safety program. Gain valuable skills and experience while making a difference! Interns are needed to assist with implementing the nation’s only firefighter heart attack prevention program and other health and safety initiatives. Tasks may include assisting with the coordination of trade show exhibits, meeting planning activities, dissemination and development of incentives for the Fired Up For Fitness Challenge, developing articles for industry media outlets, conducting research on health and safety topics, and other duties as assigned. Interns will gain skills in areas including program development and administration, nonprofit organization operations, and partnership development.
The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) seeks a motivated intern to work with our National Junior Firefighter Program. Gain valuable skills and experience in program administration, communications, and partnership development. Some experience as a junior firefighter/Explorer or with a local fire department preferred. Specific tasks may include:
- Writing press releases
- Researching legislative, training, and grant topics pertinent to junior firefighter programs
- Project development
- Assisting with special events and/or trade shows
- Contributing to social media outreach
- Assisting with mailings
- Reaching out to junior firefighters and program advisors for activity ideas and success stories
- Assisting with National Junior Firefighter Program Advisory Group conference calls/outreach
- Other duties as assigned
